making ends meet
CIEE Teach in Thailand participants have a high standard of living. Host institutions provide comfortable accommodations and the cost of living in Thailand is very low. The salary may not seem particularly high in Western terms, but it is generous in local terms—about twice what local teachers earn—and wages can easily finance independent travel after the semester.
compensation includes:
- salary: a minimum of 15,000 Baht per month
- accommodations: vary from apartments to faculty housing, but usually include bedroom, bath, sitting room, cooking facilities and most utilities
- meals: sometimes included, but not standard
- flight: a one-way ticket home upon successful completion of an academic year contract beginning in May
