The admissions procedure for the 2009 Teach in Chile program is competitive. Unlike our other teach abroad programs, CIEE does a competitive review of all applications received following the September 2, 2008 application deadline. As always, we encourage applicants to send in application materials in advance of the deadline.

Applications will be reviewed based on many criteria, including but not limited to: a well-written personal statement specifically addressing the questions noted in our application instructions; a background in teaching, leadership, and/or volunteering; linguistic skills: both English and Spanish; international experiences; letters of recommendation; the interview process; and more.

We expect to have many qualified applicants for the Teach in Chile program. In the event that we are unable to accommodate all qualified and interested applicants, a waitlist will be created.

    1. Receipt of Application
CIEE will confirm receipt of your complete application via email. All complete Teach in Chile applications must reach CIEE by September 2, 2008. This includes all supporting documentation and letters of recommendation as listed on our website.

    2. Telephone Interview
Applicants selected by CIEE will be contacted following the application deadline to schedule a telephone interview.

    3. Notification
Once all candidates have completed the interview process, application decisions will be disseminated via email. Candidates chosen to join the Teach in Chile program will receive program materials and other information on their interactive CIEE online application checklist accessed via My CIEE. To confirm the offer to join the Teach in Chile program, accepted applicants must submit a non-refundable commitment deposit of $300 within 10 days of acceptance notification. Following receipt, placement efforts begin.

    4. TEFL Training Participants must begin the TEFL training upon their confirmation to the CIEE Teach in Chile program and must be completed by early February.

    5. Placement Notification
Applicants who are successfully matched with a location and host institution will be notified of placement details in October.

    6. Placement Acceptance and Final Fee Installment
Placement confirmations must be received by CIEE within 10 days of offer. Confirmation is made by remitting the balance of the program fee. CIEE will then obtain documentation from the host institution and local authorities that is necessary to apply for your visa.
