Before you go, it will necessary to obtain a student visa for Spain.  This is a requirement created and enforced by the Spanish government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. All participants will need to travel to the Spanish Consulate in their jurisdiction to apply for their visa; there are nine Spanish Consulates in the U.S.  CIEE will provide participants with guidelines and supporting documents for the visa process, but expenses related to securing a student visa are the responsibility of the participant.

At orientation CIEE will educate you on how to apply for your permiso de estancia at the Oficina de Extranjería in your province which is how you’ll be legal in Spain!

Note: Visa processing time in the U.S. is generally 4-8 weeks; during this time your passport will be with the Consulate.
