teach immersion in ChileIn collaboration with the Ministerio de Educación and English Open Doors, CIEE sends volunteer teachers to the O’Higgins (6th) Region of Chile on four and six-month Teach Immersion programs. Home of the Chilean huaso and an area famous for its winemaking, surfing, and copper mines, the 6th region is an ideal location, just south of Santiago, to live like a local with a family, and immerse fully into Chilean culture. You will act as a teaching assistant to local Chilean teachers eager to have a native English speaker encourage their classroom along. A highlight of teach immersion Chile is the homestay experience, allowing you to truly experience life como un chileno through your host family, colleagues, and students.

All CIEE Teach Immersion programs offer the following program highlights:

  • Placement at a Chilean public school in the 5th or 6th Regions

  • Support of CIEE professional staff before you depart for Chile

  • A Lonely Planet guidebook to plan your travels

  • Online Spanish courses before you depart

  • Optional ~ Pre-departure TEFL certification

  • Orientation in Santiago, including:

    • Classes on TEFL theory and practice, Chilean Spanish, the Chilean educational system, cross-cultural training, and cultural activities

    • Round trip transportation from orientation to your regional placement

  • An all expense paid orientation in the 5th or 6th Regions

  • Accommodations and meals with a host family

  • A monthly stipend of 85.000 Chilean pesos

Six-Month Teach Immersion Chile Program
The Six-Month Teach Immersion Chile program is a way for you to improve your Spanish and round out the year teaching English to Chilean students in the public schools of Chile. Starting in late-May, the program offers a perfect step-off point for spring university graduates as well as those looking for their next adventure. Orientation takes place over three days in Santiago and then again on location in the O’Higgins Region, and you’ll meet up again with your fellow CIEE teachers and staff half way through your semester at a mid-year workshop that allows you to share and boost your Teach Immersion experience.

Four-MonthTeach Immersion Program
Based on our six-month Teach Immersion Chile program, the Chilean Ministry of Education has granted CIEE a similar four-month Teach Immersion program with teacher placements in the 5th and 6th regions of Chile. Beginning in late-July 2010, this special program is the perfect way to fill your summer and round out your year practicing your Spanish by immersing yourself in Chilean culture and bringing education and confidence to Chilean students! The Four-Month Teach Immersion Chile program will contain the same teaching and full-immersion homestay experiences as the Six-Month Teach Immersion Chile program; however, the CIEE orientation will occur in a condensed one-and-a-half day format and the mid-year workshop will occur approximately on- third of the way into the contract.
