"Young Hopes"

This photo was taken at the Green Ram Temple in Chengdu, Sichuan Province during the Spring Festival holiday in late January, 2007. A young boy is participating in the tradition of lighting a candle and offering a prayer. Throughout our travels in China, we visited many temples, and I enjoyed the atmosphere in the temple grounds: vibrant colors, blue smoke, and streams of red wax. It was almost surreal. Most of all, though, I loved watching the people and experiencing the culture and tradition.
