Before departing the U.S. for Chile, most participants (depending on assignment) will need to obtain a visa to be legal on the program. CIEE will provide you with guidelines on how to go about this, but a trip to your local Chilean Consulate (there are 12 in the U.S.) for an in-person visit is necessary. You’ll need to fill out a few forms and provide a criminal background check - but not to worry, CIEE visa strategy will help you through the visa fog. No one said applying for a visa was fun, but it can certainly be navigated!
During orientation, CIEE will bring participants to register their visa with the International Police and the Civil Registry.
A few participants, placed at colegios, will get their contract visas upon arrival at school in March.
