Undoubtedly teaching in Chile will be one of the most rewarding experiences in your life – as an English teacher you will not only gain international work experience, but you will also improve your Spanish, develop intercultural competency, and independently experience life in another country.
But leaving home and moving to a foreign country is also full of unexpected challenges that can be frustrating if unprepared for. CIEE teacher orientation is designed to provide you with the necessary cultural and logistical know-how for teaching and living in Chile.
highlights of the CIEE 4 day orientation:
Logistics: How to find an apartment? Where to go if you get sick? CIEE staff will provide detailed information about local transportation, the health care system, finding permanent housing and crucial safety considerations
Teaching English in Chile: What is the role of English in the Chilean educational system? What will your students expect from you as a foreign teacher? What will the classroom dynamic be like? The CIEE orientation addresses these themes and others to contextualize your role as a native English teacher in Chile.
Work Culture in Chile: CIEE will give you an inside view on Chilean norms and values in the workplace, particularly focusing on the educational system.
¿Me Cachai?: Chilean Spanish is known for its particular vocabulary and accent. During the orientation participants will learn how to use the most frequent modismos and where they came from.
Peer Network: Group meals and other cultural activities that will help you become acquainted with other CIEE Teachers.
