application overview

The admissions procedure for the Teach Abroad in Chile program is competitive. Unlike our other teach abroad programs, CIEE does a competitive review of all applications received following the September 1 application deadline. As always, we encourage applicants to send in application materials in advance of the deadline.

Applications will be reviewed based on many criteria, including but not limited to: a well-written personal statement specifically addressing the questions noted in our application instructions; a background in teaching, leadership, and/or volunteering; linguistic skills: both English and Spanish; international experiences; letters of recommendation; the interview process; and more.

We expect to have many qualified applicants for the Teach Abroad in Chile program. In the event that we are unable to accommodate all qualified and interested applicants, a waitlist will be created.

  • Upon review of your complete application you will be sent a confirmation email from CIEE.

  • Some applicants selected by CIEE may be contacted following the application deadline to schedule a telephone interview.

  • Once all candidates have completed the interview process, application decisions and in turn school assignments will be disseminated via email. You’ll be assigned to a CIEE representative who will share program information via your My CIEE account. S/he will be there to answer all your questions regarding timelines, program dates, cultural queries, and more.

  • Upon acceptance to the program it is necessary to submit a non-refundable commitment deposit of $1,000 within 10 days of the acceptance notification email date. The balance of the program fee will be due upon notification of placement location in late November or early December.

  • Participants must begin the TEFL training in early November and complete the course and practicum by late January.
