CIEE - What will your story be? CIEE Study Center Seville

Professional Teaching Development

The Professional Teaching Development (PTD) class was introduced into the CIEE Seville program in spring 2003. Since its conception, it has been extremely popular. What is unique about this class and makes it particularly attractive to students is that they have the chance to gain invaluable hands-on teaching experience as teachers of their own English class. It also provides a fantastic opportunity to become more integrated into Spanish society, get to know Spanish people on a more personal level and make new and interesting friends.

If students are interested, outside of class time there are options such as gaining part-time paid work as English tutors of children and adults, volunteering as language and culture assistants in local bilingual schools in cooperation with our TEACH in Spain program. ç

The PTD class is ideal for those students who wish to make a career out of teaching. However, this class is not targeted only at Education majors but also at those students who are considering a career in education sector or those would simply like the character building experience of teaching in a foreign country. Some examples of student placements include:

The Regional Andalusia Government
Day-care- El Trebol
Sevillana de Electricidad
Abengoa Solar España
University of Seville Faculty of Work Sciences
Provincial Training Centre for Public School Teachers
ABEY Consulting Firm

In addition to the PTD class, CIEE Seville also provides a number of classes which are very useful in developing teaching skills and providing a more complete teacher training experience. The PTD class offers the possibility to put into practice the theory acquired from the other classes in the Teaching Development Program (TDP). Although not compulsory, it is recommended, that students take a combination of at least one of the theoretical classes and the teaching practicum class (PTD).
