CIEE Fall 2006 Photo Contest
CIEE is excited to announce the results of our most recent photo contest.
We received a record number of entries, so the decision was tough! All of the photos entered displayed an amazing range of experiences and adventures that students on CIEE programs get to enjoy. The quality of the photos and the breadth of subject matter truly made this year a very hard year to judge.
Once we saw all of the great pictures, we decided to do things a little different for this contest. We ended up having TWO categories for the Fall 2006 participant photo contest.
Our first category included a first, second, and third place winner for creative and inspiring photos that show Student Interaction with the host community; where they lived and studied – their dorm, homestay, campus, and classrooms; and their travels. You can view these images below (click on them to view larger versions).
We also decided to have an award for one winner in the most Artistic Image category from among the dozens photos that were submitted. Click here to view the winner and honorable mentions.
Overall Winner

"Mountaintop Wheelbarrow Ride"
Lydia Droegemueller
University of Minnesota, Twin Cities
CIEE Study Center in Valparaíso, Chile
This photo was taken on the Isla del Sol in Lake Titicaca, in Bolivia, at the end of my CIEE semester in Valparaíso, Chile. Sarah, another CIEE participant, is pushing some kids that live on the island in a wheelbarrow. Naturally I had my camera with me because of the scenery, but seeing Sarah and these Bolivian children laugh so hard together was so cute I nearly used up all my camera batteries before the Isla del Sol sunset! –Lydia Droegemueller
Second Place

"Bringing in the Nets"
Brian Ford
Tulane University
CIEE Study Center in Legon, Ghana
This picture is of me helping to bring in the nets with fisherman in an Nzeema village on the west coast of Ghana. It was early morning - I was walking on the beach and they asked me to help. I helped them for about half an hour as we moved up and down the beach, pulling in the nets and their catch for the day. –Brian Ford
Third Place

"Andy and the Red-Eyed Frog"
Josh Metten
Colorado State University
CIEE Study Center in Monteverde, Costa Rica
I took this photo last fall while on a field trip with CIEE in Tortugero, Costa Rica. We were studying the plant and animal life in the national park when someone spotted a pale green blob sticking to a leaf. After a closer look it turned out to be a sleeping red eyed tree frog (Agalychnis callidryas). I like this photo because the frog is as interested in us as we are in it; Andrew is observing the frog on his shoulder, while the frog is staring at the camera. –Josh Metten
