About London

A city with a rich and celebrated history, London is the hub of British business and government and one of the world’s most important cultural centers. The South Bank Complex, with the National Theater, Royal Festival Hall, and National Film Theater, can be reached easily by bus or railway, as can the theaters of the West End and Shakespeare’s Globe, as well as countless museums and galleries. Part of the excitement of living in London comes from the international allure of the many different ethnic, religious, and cultural groups who call it home.

Where You'll Study

Goldsmiths, University of London

Founded in 1891, Goldsmiths joined the University of London in 1904. Large enough to offer a variety of facilities, yet small enough to offer personalized attention to each student in its diverse student community, Goldsmiths boasts a vibrant campus life with frequent art shows, theater performances, public concerts, and student film shows. The campus is situated in New Cross, South East London in a lively, working class immigrant neighborhood. Served by two railway stops and multiple bus lines, the commute to central London takes 20–40 minutes.

Thoughts From Abroad

London is recognized as one of the world’s most diverse and cosmopolitan cities. One in three Londoners are from an ethnic minority and there are over 400 languages spoken. Goldsmiths, located in New Cross, a flourishing part of South East London, attracts students from a variety of backgrounds and nationalities from London, all over the UK, and overseas. The area itself is a rapidly changing urban environment with excellent public transportation into central London within 20 minutes. However, having Greenwich on your doorstep means you can take advantage of comedy clubs, cinema, shopping, pubs, and restaurants right along the Thames River. South East London is also one of the greenest parts of London, surrounded by Greenwich Royal Park, Blackheath, Dulwich Park, and Peckham Rye Common.
