About London

A city with a rich and celebrated history, London is the hub of British business and government and one of the world’s most important cultural centers. The South Bank Complex, with the National Theater, Royal Festival Hall, and National Film Theater, can be reached easily by bus or railway, as can the theaters of the West End and Shakespeare’s Globe, as well as countless museums and galleries. Part of the excitement of living in London comes from the international allure of the many different ethnic, religious, and cultural groups who call it home.

Where You'll Study

University College London, University of London

University College London (UCL), the largest college within the University of London, was founded as the third university in England in 1826. The College was the first to admit students of any religion and social background and the first to admit women on equal terms with men. UCL, with a student population of 11,900, is highly selective and offers a very challenging academic environment. Despite the large size of the student body, the cluster of UCL buildings, known as the College precinct, provides a compact, cloistered environment conducive to academic pursuit.

Thoughts From Abroad

Home to the ‘Mother of Parliament,’ London’s rich history is still very much evident today. Its two thousand years of history has created fascinating architecture, culture, and society.

University College London is similarly extensive in its history. UCL is London’s first university and only the third university to be founded in England. What’s more, UCL was the first to welcome women, students of any religion, and without reference to their social background. Today, the undergraduate student body is diverse and dynamic: over half are women and students are from 142 overseas countries. Unlike most central London universities, UCL’s campus is very much evident. Just north of Oxford Street and the British Museum, the campus is surrounded by other colleges and libraries of the University of London and the British Library, offering a unique and exceptional academic resource.
