Enrollment Update
We have received a great number of early applications for the spring 2009 Cape Town, South Africa Service-Learning program.

If you are reviewing applications for this program, we ask that you please forward them to CIEE as soon as possible for consideration as the program is filling rapidly and there are a limited number of spaces available.

We strongly recommend that students applying for this program indicate a second choice on their application in the event they are placed on a waiting list. For alternative programs in Southern Africa, please have your students consider the CIEE Study Centers in Stellenbosch, South Africa and Gaborone, Botswana. For an alternative Service-Learning program, please have them consider the Service-Learning program at the CIEE Study Center in Santiago, Dominican Republic, which has a prerequisite of 4 semesters of college-level Spanish.

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact Libby Lauze, Manager, Enrollment at 1.800.40.STUDY x4141 or via email at elauze@ciee.org.

Competitive Admissions
As a reminder, beginning with spring 2009, CIEE will move to a competitive review of applications for the programs listed below in addition to the Arts & Sciences program in Cape Town, South Africa. Note that all applications will be reviewed following the official application deadline and not on a rolling basis.

  • Prague, Czech Republic: Central European Studies
  • Amman, Jordan: Language and Culture
  • Dakar, Senegal: Language and Culture

Please note that applications for other programs are reviewed on a rolling basis. We encourage students to submit their applications well in advance of the application deadline. Encourage students to apply online and begin the application process today! Staff Update

The Enrollment Department announces a temporary staffing change for the spring 2009 enrollment cycle. Victoria Fletcher is on maternity leave until mid-January 2009. In order to ensure that our Africa and Middle East programs receive full attention in her absence, CIEE welcomes Phil Teplitz as the Enrollment Officer, Africa and the Middle East until February 2009. Phil comes to us with a variety of professional experience including three years of in study abroad advising and program management at the University of Pittsburgh. In addition, he has spent time as a Student Services Coordinator onsite at the CAPA program in London, England.

Phil can be reached by email at pteplitz@ciee.org or by phone at 1.800.407.8839 x4103 or 207.553.4103.

The CIEE Student Experience: Palma de Mallorca
If you have students thinking about studying abroad in Spain, they have a lot of choices with CIEE, including a summer or semester in Palma de Mallorca, an island off the eastern coast of Spain. See what CIEE students have to say about Palma - their classes, homestay families, and more.
