quality academics above all
We want you to have a study abroad experience that shapes everything from your current perspectives to the future life you lead. That begins with a carefully developed, academically challenging program. Our many different study programs have many different learning objectives, but in creating each, we partner with high-quality institutions abroad, hire experienced and dedicated staff, and continuously evaluate our results. To do that, CIEE monitors student, RD, and Academic Consortium Board (ACB) evaluations conducted during a formal review process. (The ACB is an elected group of educators whose main purpose is to ensure the quality of CIEE programs.) All are available for your review online. Any issue that arises during that formal process is discussed and addressed. In this way, CIEE programs improve continually, year by year, ensuring enduring educational experiences.

total learning experiences
Our programs immerse you in a new environment abroad by combining a variety of experiences. Some classes are specifically designed and taught for CIEE students; others are run by host universities abroad. Even more takes place outside the classroom. Conversation exchanges. Clubs, lectures, and workshops. Homestays where you live with a host family and residences where you live with local and international students. Service-learning, field work, and volunteer opportunities. Internships. Guided excursions near and far. Together, these add up to a complete education abroad.

more ways to transform yourself
CIEE offers more programs than any other provider. We are dedicated to creating learning experiences for students with all kinds of educational backgrounds and interests—not just for language majors. We offer programs that introduce you to other cultures, of course—but also to international business, tropical ecology, and grassroots development. We are also committed to creating educational opportunities in nontraditional destinations: the townships of Cape Town, rural Thailand, under the sea in Bonaire.

enthusiastic on-site staff
Every CIEE program has a Resident Director (RD) on-site to supervise the program and assist students with academic, administrative, and day-to-day matters. Resident Directors are dedicated educators who have a native or learned understanding of the host country language and culture, love showing students their city, and often teach CIEE courses. Depending on the program, your RD may work with other on-site CIEE staff such as academic advisors, housing coordinators, and program assistants—all available to help you.

in-the-know advice
Almost all of our staff members have studied or lived abroad. That first-hand international experience gives CIEE insider information that can make your time abroad as manageable and meaningful as it can be. Before you go, ask your study abroad advisor for CIEE Knowledge, a series of informational brochures for students, faculty, and parents on topics such as health, safety, and women abroad. When you’re there, ask our on-site staff for advice on anything from what classes to choose to how to get the most out of a weekend excursion.

scholarships to make it possible
CIEE offers scholarships—applicable toward any program—to students who demonstrate either academic excellence or financial need. We also offer scholarships to students studying in non-traditional destinations, students who have been traditionally underrepresented in study abroad, and students of Chinese language and tropical biology. More information about each is online.
