Anhui Clean Water and Hygiene Initiative
The Jane Goodall Institute: Shanghai Roots & Shoots & CIEE Study Center in Shanghai, China
This grant supported an initiative at the Yangshan Primary School in Anhui Province to install a water filtration system and launch a health and hygiene program in the school. Students at the school received comprehensive personal hygiene kits, stainless steel meal kits, new school uniforms and shoes, as well as health and hygiene lessons, generating information to be shared with children’s families and the larger Yangshan community. CIEE students were involved in trip planning, hygiene lessons and installation of the water filtration system. Each student was paired with a Roots & Shoots staff member or volunteer to teach the hygiene lessons. They also met with local villagers to assess and survey their current practices and future needs for the organization.
