The Mitchell Institute
Since 1996, The Mitchell Institute, Maine’s premier foundation promoting access to higher education, leadership development, and research, has created scholarship and grant programs that recognize Maine’s best and brightest students. Its core mission is to increase the likelihood that young people from every community in Maine will aspire to, pursue, and achieve a college education. The Institute has awarded more than $8.5 million in financial assistance to more than 1,900 Maine students since 1995.
CIEE and Mitchell Institute International Fellowship
In the spring of 2012, CIEE and The Mitchell Institute selected two exemplary, globally minded students from current Mitchell Scholars to participate in an innovative diplomacy internship.
Amanda Hall, a Yale University sophomore from Farmington, and Spencer Traylor, a Colby College sophomore from Brownville, had the unprecedented opportunity to examine, firsthand, peace processes and public diplomacy in two of the world’s most contentious regions: Belfast, Ireland, (Hall) and Amman, Jordan (Traylor).
The students met with local experts and government officials, explored communities and cultures, and engaged with faculty participants of CIEE International Faculty Development Seminars onsite.
