CIEE Fall 2009 Video Contest
We received excellent submissions, so the decision wasn't easy to make. However, David Miess' video stood above the rest.
I brought my video camera to Alicante just in case I wanted to record things. The end product is a very concise illustration of my study abroad experience—from the initial desire and hunger to study abroad, to the several months of immersion that seem to fly by, to the multicultural mindset I had coming back. It shows the journey students take from beginning to end, and displays the inner metamorphosis that occurs within every like-minded student after partaking on this journey. The moments of hiking along the Camino de Santiago in northern Spain, the moments of standing in awe at the beautiful Mediterranean, the moments of bonding with my new friends on trips, and the moments of simply talking at the dinner table with my wonderful host family—these experiences have intrinsically changed me. I go full circle, from America to Spain and back to America, but there has been a metamorphosis within me. Not just that I see the world from a different point of view, but that I see it in tandem with my previous American outlook—I now have a dimensionality to my cultural perspective, and it is something I will never forget.
