"A couple on the way to La Feria in Seville."
Amy Seago
George Washington University
Seville, Spain

There was one thing my host grandmother told me the day I moved in that she continued to remind me of every day after — "Tienes que aprovechar!" ("You have to make the most of it!") I truly believe that this very philosophy was shared by the community in Triana in which I lived and I soon found that most Sevillanos did make the most of their time. I shot this photograph of a couple dressed to the nines and embracing the incessant rain on their way to the fairgrounds during La Feria de Abril. I didn't know the couple, but while I was abroad and travelling my favorite moments were often the quiet ones filled with people-watching and an appreciation of that sense of the community around me. Capturing this photograph was one of those moments and this couple, for me, embodied what my host grandmother had succeeded in instilling in me — "Al diablo con la lluvia, ¡seguimos a La Feria!"
