Health + Safety Abroad

At CIEE: Council on International Educational Exchange, we’ve been helping students get out into the world and then home again—safe and sound—for more than six decades. Every step of the way, we’re here to make sure that no question goes unanswered and no need goes unattended.

Local support

Our dedicated, full-time, on-site staff members are responsible for the day-to-day operation of every program. It’s their job to look after your son or daughter, from arrival to return-trip home. That includes monitoring academic progress, assisting with happy and seamless integrations into the new culture, and handling in-country details in case of illness or emergency. As local residents, our staff has personal knowledge of the city or town. That's an added benefit when getting students settled in a new environment.

Peace of mind

Your son/daughter’s welfare is our first priority. That’s why our Director of Health, Safety, and Security works with the U.S. State Department to assess every program we offer. With iNext travel insurance, your child is covered in the event of unexpected accidents and illnesses while traveling abroad. All iNext policies provide a high level of emergency services and support, as well as information to help prepare the insured for safe travels abroad.

Our commitment to safety extends well beyond the details and into the day to day of each program. CIEE Support is your round-the-clock point of contact at our headquarters in Portland, Maine. There’s always someone for you or your son/daughter to talk to—live and in person.
