2014 CIEE Winter Faculty Summit

Nominate a faculty member for the 2014 CIEE Winter Faculty Summit!

We’re seeking faculty experts—thought leaders and innovators—in the disciplines of development studies, education, and public health and nursing to participate in the 2014 CIEE Winter Faculty Summit.

The Challenge: New Opportunities For Hands-On Learning

Students of all academic majors are increasingly demanding more opportunities for service-learning, internships, community engagement, independent research, and field studies as part of both their on-campus education and study abroad experience. Yet, incorporation of these elements differs widely, particularly in the disciplines of public health and nursing, development studies, and education. Faculty and administrators must develop new solutions for shaping programs—both on campus and off—that serve the diverse interests of today’s students.

The Solution: Collective Discussion and Action

During the 2014 Winter Faculty Summit, we’ll examine the trend toward expanded hands-on learning opportunities in study abroad. Using the collective wisdom of our participants and lessons learned from incorporated visits to CIEE community program partners in the Dominican Republic, we’ll develop bold new ways to enhance the study abroad experience that align more closely with the needs of today’s students and sending institutions and generate best practices for strengthening international education programs.
