CIEE Academic Consortium Membership
The Academic Consortium is a membership organization comprising all colleges and universities that sponsor the CIEE Study Center study abroad programs managed by CIEE. The Consortium serves as the vehicle through which the member institutions provide accreditation to CIEE programs, and thus the Consortium plays an important role in evaluation of academic quality and discussion of academic issues related to the programs. The Academic Consortium meets annually, in conjunction with CIEE’s Annual Conference.

Consortium Governance
The Academic Consortium Board (ACB) is the official governing body of the Consortium and is charged with providing quality review and direction for all CIEE study abroad programs. The ACB consists of 11 members and one ex-officio members with voting privileges. Eligible for election to the ACB are official representatives of Consortium member institutions and other faculty or administrators from member institutions of the Academic Consortium who have the endorsement of the official representative of their institutions.
Institutional Representation
Academic Consortium Voting Representative
Academic Consortium member institutions are asked to designate an official representative to exercise the institution’s voting rights at the annual meeting and in mail ballots. Unless otherwise specified by the institution, the individual who signs the Consortium Membership Agreement will be designated as the official institutional representative.
Consortium Members are asked to designate appropriate faculty and/or administrative contacts for the various purposes, as set forth in the sections that follow. Unless otherwise specified, CIEE will assume that the official institutional representative is the correct contact for all purposes.
Primary Advisor
This person is usually a study abroad advisor and serves as the principal liaison for processing applications. Institutions may name multiple administrative contacts in accordance with the administrative structures that exist on each campus.
Faculty Representatives
Consortium Member institutions may designate any number of faculty representatives for the programs they wish to use. Faculty representatives should have an academic background related to program content. Faculty representatives receive regular updates about programs in their area and a supply of promotional materials to share with their students, and may be called on for advice and input on academic issues.
Annual Dues
There is no additional cost for Consortium Membership for institutions that are already CIEE Members. Institutions that are not currently members of CIEE pay annual consortium dues, which are currently set at $400.
Application Procedures
Institutions that meet the qualifications for AC membership are invited to submit the Academic Consortium Membership Agreement to CIEE. By signing the agreement, applicants agree to endorse the Academic Consortium Agreement. The CIEE senior staff makes decisions on applications on a rolling basis and approved schools are able to benefit from the membership immediately following the outcome of the senior staff meeting.
CIEE Academic Consortium Membership Instructions and Agreement
