Future Leaders Summit III
Baltimore, MD | November 19, 2014
Diversity Abroad and CIEE Partnership for Change

Diversity Abroad and CIEE seek nominations for high-energy, passionate problem-solvers committed to increasing access to study abroad programs for students on campus.

Twenty future leaders will participate in a full-day, hands-on workshop led by experts in the field of international education. Fully funded by Diversity Abroad and CIEE, the Summit will allow participants to learn concrete ideas for driving change at their home institutions while enjoying an opportunity to share best practices.

The Challenge:

Studying abroad is one of the best ways for students to experience personal, academic, and professional growth. Yet the number of students taking part from diverse racial/ethnic and economic backgrounds and underrepresented academic majors continues to be low. Whether due to financial concerns or the belief that programs that meet rigorous academic requirements don’t exist, many students pass up the chance to gain life skills, learn a second language, and develop maturity and independence in another country and culture.

The question remains: How do we attract and include a wide and diverse range of students to study abroad?

The Solution:

You'll explore this question during the Diversity Abroad Future Leaders Summit. Each interactive one-day workshop—part of a series of three to be held annually—is aimed at stimulating new ideas for overcoming one of the three leading barriers to study abroad: curriculum, culture, and cost. Together with other leaders in the field of international education, you’ll take part in lectures, breakout sessions, and examinations of successful case studies designed to promote networking and collaboration to inspire new ideas to address current study abroad challenges.

Your goal: Develop bold solutions for addressing cost as a barrier to international education.
