CIEE Study Center News
CIEE Study Center in Paris, France
On September 16th, Brent Keever, Resident Director at the CIEE Study Center in Paris, gave a paper at the University of Brighton's Politics of Fear/Fear of Politics conference, organized by the Centre for Applied Philosophy, Politics and Ethics. In "From Pedagogy to Teratogogy: Monstrosity and Childhood," Keever attempted to delineate the fearsome logic behind the contemporary trend in France to transform the young, even the very young, into delinquents and potentially monstrous beings. Through an analysis of the 2005 INSERM report, scripted by sociologists who recommended creating police records of turbulent childhood behavior from the age of three, the economic and social interests of such a criminalizing fear of children were posited as well as an image of a frightful, though closely monitored future.
Brent Keever has also been named to the Conseil Scientifique of the Collège International de Philosophie. Founded in 1983 by François Châtelet and Jacques Derrida and linked to the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research, the Collège International de Philosophie welcomes scholars from all over the world to offer seminars and conferences that present today's cutting-edge thought, many of which take place at the CIEE Paris Center for Critical Studies. Envisaged as a "crossroads" between disciplines, the Collège continues to play a major role in contemporary critical theoretical debate.

The Sunday Times cited the University's 48 percent increase in research income last year, the success of its 20-year old Access programme and strong student satisfaction as just three of the reasons for this year's award.
CIEE Study Center in Amsterdam, the Netherlands
The Social Science program will offer a homestay option as of the spring 2011 semester. This is an interesting alternative to the dormitories for students who are looking to gain more insight into Dutch day-to-day routines and serious about improving Dutch language skills. Homestay placements are limited.

CIEE Study Center in Barcelona, Spain
The CIEE Study Center in Barcelona has been recently expanded and renovated. The Center is housed in two beautiful Modernist houses in a private passageway in the heart of Barcelona. Premises include a total of eight classrooms and two architecture studios. Other areas for student use include a student lounge, a study area, and a computer room. The building has a Wi-Fi connection and several external places for students’ use, where they typically interact during breaks. The two buildings that house the facilities were recently connected internally providing the spaces with a more fluid dynamics. Without a doubt, the Study Center has a privileged location and a very pleasant interior.
