CIEE Study Center Updates
Application Deadlines Approaching
October 1 application deadlines for a number of spring CIEE Study Center programs are approaching. For a complete list of deadlines, click here.
Please remind your students applying to a CIEE program that they must have a valid passport to participate. Passports should be valid for at least six months past the program’s end date. Students without a valid passport (or one that expires less than six months after the program end date) should apply without delay for a new passport. We suggest that students expedite their passport application in order to receive their new passports in plenty of time to complete any necessary visa applications or pre-departure procedures required by the host country.

Meet CIEE Resident Staff in Istanbul
If you’re planning to attend the CIEE Annual Conference in Istanbul, Turkey this November, make sure to schedule time to meet with CIEE resident staff from around the world. New Blog: CIEE Study Center in Guanajuato, Mexico
Through digital storytelling on their new blog, staff and students at the CIEE Study Center in Guanajuato, Mexico hope to create a multidimensional image of life in Guanajuato. Learn about Guanajuato and the CIEE student experience as staff compile images, sounds, and written observations on this dynamic Mexican city.
Program Site Visits
Visiting a CIEE Study Center is the best way to learn about the program, meet on-site CIEE staff and faculty, and speak with students about their experience abroad with CIEE. In 2009 and 2010, CIEE is planning to offer a number of site visits.
Fall 2009 Site Visits
If you’re attending the CIEE Conference in Istanbul this November, consider visiting a CIEE Study Center during your travels. Pre-conference visits to the CIEE Study Centers in Paris, Budapest, Dublin, and Amsterdam, as well as a post-conference visit to the CIEE Study Center in Istanbul, are still accepting registrations.
Spring 2010 Site Visits
CIEE is offering three group site visits in spring 2010:
- Seville, Spain and Rabat, Morocco March 6-13
- Shanghai and Beijing, China April 8-17
- Buenos Aires, Argentina and Santiago and Valparaíso, Chile April 9-17

New Program—Community Public Health in Khon Kaen, Thailand
New for spring 2010, the Community Public Health program in Thailand is geared to help students understand the complexities and challenges faced by the public health community in Northeast Thailand and provides students with a broad overview of public health management and community public health issues in Thailand and Southeast Asia. Students will apply theoretical frameworks covered in the classroom to competently carry out community health assessments, develop and implement a public health project, and assess its impact.

New Resident Director—Naples, Italy
Dr. Serena Fusco is the Resident Director of the new CIEE Study Center at the University of Naples L’Orientale. After earning her Ph.D from L’Orientale in Comparative Literature, she was offered a Research Fellowship to investigate Literature of the Chinese Diaspora. Dr. Fusco went on to the University of California at Berkeley where she was a Visiting Scholar at the Center for Chinese Studies. She has worked as an American Literature and English language instructor at L’Orientale and as a Museum Assistant at the Capidomonte Museum in Naples. Her research interests include Comparative Literature and Culture; Modernity, Postmodernity, and Cultural Translation; Asian American and Chinese American Literature; The Chinese Diaspora and “Chineseness” as cultural capital; Feminist and queer theory and criticism; and Photography, Visuality, and Image Theory. In addition to Italian, Dr. Fusco speaks English, French, Chinese, German, and Spanish.
