Enrollment Update

Spain
Beginning with the fall 2008 semester, CIEE has arranged for a group visa appointment at the Spanish consulates in Los Angeles, Boston, and Chicago. If you have students who meet the residency requirements for these consulates, they are eligible to participate in our group appointment. Please note that the group visa appointment will not reduce the time needed for a visa application to be processed, but will simply provide students with the option to allow CIEE to submit their visa application to the consulate. Some consulates may require students to appear in person to pick up their passports once the visas have been issued.

We are currently finalizing the appointment dates and procedures. Students should check their online checklists in MY CIEE in the coming weeks for detailed instructions.

CIEE continues to work with other Spanish consulates to try and secure group appointments. We will update students and advisors as we make arrangements with other consulates. Students who do not meet the residency requirements for the consulates noted above should contact their own consulate without delay to begin the visa application process.

Brazil
Students who are applying for a semester or year-long CIEE program in Brazil should contact their local Brazilian consulate and find out exactly what type of background check (local, state, FBI, etc.) is required. This past semester, a few students’ arrival to the program site was delayed because they had to resubmit the proper documents to the consulate as the result of incorrect initial background checks. Please encourage your students to pay special attention to Brazil visa requirements.

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact Libby Lauze, Manager, Enrollment at 1.800.40.STUDY x4141 or via e-mail at Elauze@ciee.org.

International Faculty Development Seminars
Take advantage of a CIEE International Faculty Development Seminars to further your professional development this summer. There are short-term, intensive programs in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East for all educators and administrators as well as faculty. CIEE can still accommodate new participants on several 2008 seminars. Please contact us for availability and application information.

Teach in Spain Application Deadline Extended
CIEE is pleased to announce that the application deadline for our Teach in Spain program has been extended until April 11.

Working as a Language and Culture Assistant for the school year in a city, pueblo, or rural village in Andalusia is the experience that so many study abroad returnees are searching for, and is supported by the services and expertise of CIEE that you know and trust. Share the good news with your students!

Teaching experience is not necessary to apply, however applicants must have earned their bachelor’s degree since 1993, hablas inglés y español, hold a U.S. or Canadian passport, and be committed to putting their skills and heart into teaching local students in Andalusia.

New from Abroad
Are you interested in learning what your students are doing while at a CIEE Study Center? Each semester, CIEE resident staff send out program updates, providing sending school advisors with updates related to orientation activities, classes, and cultural activities and excursions. These updates are also posted on our website and are a great way for you and your students to learn more about what’s happening on-site at CIEE Study Centers around the world.
