CIEE Study Center News
Alberto del Rio Malo, Resident Director of the CIEE Advanced Liberal Arts program at the Universitat de Barcelona, directed a literary event, "An Anthology of North American Poetry," where poems by Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, T.S. Eliot, Robinson Jeffers, Wallace Stevens, Carl Sandburg, and Sarah Teasdale were read. This trilingual poetry reading was the inaugural event of the centenary celebration for the Catalan poet, Agustí Bartra, to whom the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and the Universitat de Vic (UVIC) will dedicate an international symposium in March.

Teach in Spain for Recent Graduates
Many undergraduates study abroad in Spain and can’t wait to go back, but don’t know to do it. The CIEE Teach in Spain program is the perfect opportunity for them. Living and working with locals and sharing American culture and language with colleagues, students, and new friends are great ways for participants to immerse themselves in Andalusian culture while perfecting their Spanish.

Teaching experience is not necessary to apply, though applicants should have earned their bachelor’s degree after 1993, speak English and Spanish, hold a U.S. or Canadian passport, and be committed to putting their skills and heart into teaching. A non-credit option is also available for current university juniors who would be in their final year of study during the program dates. Paid positions working as a Language and Culture Assistant for the school year in a city, pueblo, or rural village in Andalusia is the experience that so many are searching for, and is supported by the services and expertise of CIEE.

CIEE will be accepting applications until March 15 for the program beginning in late September 2008. Please e-mail Jennifer Atkinson, Manager, Teach Abroad at jatkinson@ciee.org with any questions.
