Since 1947, the Council on International Educational Exchange, known as CIEE and formerly, Council, has been in pursuit of its mission, "to help people gain understanding, acquire knowledge, and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world." Our services to young people studying and teaching abroad are more important than ever. As we look ahead, we reaffirm our commitment to the principles and values that guide this mission statement.

CIEE is located in the small coastal city of Portland, Maine. The office is situated in Portland's Old Port area which is filled with local shops, restaurants, and movie theatres. The city holds festivals, concerts and holiday bazaars throughout the winter. Even though the winters are cold, but there are plenty of outdoor activities to keep you busy. Places to go skiing, snow tubing, and ice skating are easily accessible. Maine is a great place for adventurous students who love a close knit community and the outdoors.
