Admissions Update: CIEE Study Center in Amman, Jordan
We have received a great number of early applications for the CIEE Study Center in Amman, Jordan. If you are in the process of reviewing applications for the spring 2007 program, we ask that you forward these to CIEE as soon as possible for consideration as the program is filling rapidly and there are a limited number of spaces available.

We strongly recommend that students indicate a second choice option on their application in the event they are placed on a waiting list.

If you have any questions, please contact Libby Lauze at 1.800.40.STUDY ext. 641 or via e-mail at elauze@ciee.org.

CIEE Study Center in Palma de Mallorca, Spain
Located about 300 kilometers off the coast of Spain, for many the Balearic archipelago defines what it means to be Mediterranean. A historical intersection of different peoples and cultures from the East, West, North, and South, the rich and diverse culture of these islands is reflected in their capital, Palma. The Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB), where CIEE students study, is a model institution with regard to its progressive relationship toward the environment and the community, as well as the economy of the island.

The CIEE Study Center in Palma provides an academic program for students with an advanced level of Spanish who are interested in a wide range of subjects such as tourism, business, humanities, Spanish literature and language, and social sciences. The academic offering consists of a combination of CIEE Study Center language and content courses and regular courses at the UIB with other Spanish students, and an internship for credit.

Antonia Ferriol, the CIEE Resident Director organizes activities and trips throughout the semester designed to highlight many of the subjects and places that they will learn about in their area studies courses. Students may also volunteer with a local company and participate in University sports. Click here to read Antonia’s newsletters about what happens onsite in Palma, and please let your students know about this program.

Ten Years of Service to the Field of International Education
CIEE wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Hans DeWit, who for the past ten years has ably served as the Editor of the Journal of Studies in International Education. CIEE is proud to have served as the first home of the Journal, and to have continued to serve as a formal sponsor. We look forward to honoring Dr. DeWit at the Opening Plenary of our Conference in Seville on November 8, and to inviting those in attendance to celebrate both Dr. DeWit’s extraordinary leadership, and the contributions that JSIE has made in advancing international education.

CIEE Scholarships
Please encourage your students to submit their application for CIEE scholarships. Award amounts typically range from $500 - $5,000 (depending on award type and financial need). Please remember we have a new scholarship application form starting this semester, which is separate from the program application. Completed scholarship applications are due in the CIEE Portland office by November 1st, even if the program application deadline is extended.
