In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the University of South Carolina has awarded nearly $400,000 in grants to fund 18 research projects on the societal and environmental impact of this tragedy. We are pleased to announce that Dr. David Simmons is one of these recipients, having been awarded a grant of $25,000 to conduct a study entitled: "Health, History, and Healing Among a Displaced People: Short-Term and Long-Term Impacts in the Wake of Hurricane Katrina". Congratulations David!

Homestays in Prague
Living with Czechs and experiencing the local culture is key to a true immersion experience. In an effort to encourage more students to choose the homestay option at the CIEE Study Center in Prague, we’re asking for your help. When advising students about their housing choice, please pass along the following information:

A homestay at the CIEE Study Center in Prague is:
* an excellent opportunity to integrate into the local culture and language
* a chance to practice cultural adaptation skills
* a home away from home, with a private room and breakfast and dinner included

Read on to see what a student had to say about his homestay experience in Prague:
My homestay experience has certainly been one of the highlights of my semester abroad. Not only were they fun people to live with, but I got to partake in experiences that I would have never known about when living alone or in a dorm. Whether snowboarding in the mountains, bicycling in the country, or just eating dinner together, my homestay was a truly amazing opportunity that more people should experience.
