New Program: Business & Tourism in Palma de Mallorca, Spain
Mallorca is the number one tourist destination in Europe with 12 million annual visitors, and is a global model for responsible tourism. Tourism arrivals are expected to top 1.6 billion by the year 2020. What better time and place for your business/tourism students to study abroad?

Palma has been carefully protected from over-development and has maintained its traditional Spanish-Catalan identity with an old city full of life, culture, and history dating back to the prehistoric ages. Students will live with a host family and join the community of 15,000 Spanish students enrolled at the Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB), an institution that is respectful of the environment. The program focuses on the impact of international tourism from a social, historical, economic, and environmental perspective. If you have students interested in business, tourism, and social sciences, pass the word along!

Application Deadlines
Please let your students know it’s not too early to apply to a CIEE Study Center for the spring semester. Some deadlines are actually right around the corner:

October 1: Japan
October 15: Belgium, Brazil, Dominican Republic, England, South Africa, Thailand
November 1: All other programs

Encourage them to apply online and begin the application process today!

New Location for the CIEE Study Center in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil
The CIEE Study Center office in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil has moved from the historic neighborhood of Pelourinho to the commercial district of Largo 2 de Julho in the center of town. Dr. Jeferson Bacelar, CIEE Resident Director, is very happy about the move because, “it allows students to have more access to the reality of daily life among Bahians and provides opportunities for students to interact with the community in an area less influenced by tourism.” The move has resulted in a larger and more modern classroom space equipped with multimedia equipment, where CIEE courses are taught. In addition, the CIEE Resident Staff share a much larger office space to work with students. The CIEE office is located on a square shaded by trees and surrounded by small business establishments. CIEE continues to be housed in the same building with the Centro de Estudos Afro-Orienteis (CEAO), an institute affiliated with Universidade Federale de Bahia (UFBA) and two of the four Universidade Católica de Salvador campuses are within walking distance.

Our View: Parents, Pills, and Pandering
Be on the lookout for the latest in the Our View series, Parents, Pills, and Pandering. To read the complete essay online, please click here. Or, download the pdf in our Publications Center.

The Knowledge Series
The Knowledge Series has been well-received by advisors, faculty, and students. In fact, many study abroad offices have ordered the Parents brochure to give to every student at their pre-departure orientation. To read more about the series, or to place an order, please click here. We’re already thinking about our next installment, available early next year. As always, let us know if you have any suggestions.
