  • Czech Republic, Prague: Central European Studies
  • Czech Republic, Prague: Film Studies
  • England, London: Arts and Humanities: Goldsmiths
  • England, London: Arts and Sciences: University College London

Competitive Admissions
Beginning with spring 2009, CIEE will move to a competitive review of applications for the programs listed below in addition to the Arts & Sciences program in Cape Town, South Africa. Note that all applications will be reviewed following the official application deadline and not on a rolling basis.

  • Prague, Czech Republic: Central European Studies
  • Amman, Jordan: Language and Culture
  • Dakar, Senegal: Language and Culture

This move to a competitive admissions process was prompted by the immense popularity of these programs and we believe that a competitive admissions process will continue the CIEE tradition of a high-quality academic program at our Study Centers in Senegal, the Czech Republic, Jordan, and Cape Town, South Africa.

Please note that applications for other programs are reviewed on a rolling basis. We encourage students to submit their applications well in advance of the application deadline. Encourage students to apply online and begin the application process today!

New Programs Opening Spring 2009
CIEE is pleased to announce the following new CIEE Study Center programs for spring 2009. If you have any questions regarding the new programs before then, please contact CIEE by phone at 1.800.40.STUDY or by e-mail at studyinfo@ciee.org.

  • Perth, Australia
CIEE Study Center at Murdoch University
    [Sustainability and the Environment]

This new program at the well-established CIEE Study Center in Perth is designed for students interested in issues of sustainability. Coursework includes sustainability studies, public policy, planning, legal studies, environmental science, and the biological sciences. One of the many strengths of the program is the opportunity for students to take courses that teach them to be well-versed in both the scientific component as well as public policy issues in Western Australia–a region that due to its geographic isolation and depleting natural resources is well-advanced in the field of sustainable development and policy making.
  • Beijing, China
CIEE Study Center at Peking University
    [Advanced Chinese Studies]

The Advanced Chinese Studies program is designed to provide support for superior language students interested in taking coursework completely in Chinese alongside Chinese peers. Students enroll directly in one of the following departments at Peking University based on their academic interest: Chinese Language and Literature, History, International Studies, or The Guanghua School of Management. Courses are supplemented by weekly tutorials with peer tutors; on-campus, homestay, or independent housing options; and research opportunities.
  • Brussels, Belgium
CIEE Study Center at Université Libre de Bruxelles
    [Advanced Liberal Arts]

The Advanced Liberal Arts program is designed for students with upper-level French language skills who want the challenge of direct matriculation at a French-speaking university. The program is particularly well-suited for those with an interest in language, literature, philosophy, and history. The semester core course on Belgian history is supplemented by seminars led by the CIEE Resident Director and direct enrollment courses at the University in a wide variety of disciplines. A ULB student mentor helps CIEE students integrate into the Belgian university environment and life in Belgium.
  • Monteverde, Costa Rica
    CIEE Study Center
    [Sustainability and the Environment]

The CIEE Study Center in Monteverde has a long tradition of high academic quality in the natural sciences, and has developed the Sustainability and the Environment program for environmental studies and science-related majors. Professors prepare students in the classroom and accompany students on field trips with emphasis placed on hands-on field observation of conservation and development projects throughout Costa Rica and parts of Nicaragua as well as human-nature interactions and their application to the conservation of nature, social justice, national security, and the economy. While classes are taught in English, students learn or improve their Spanish language skills in beginning through advanced level Spanish language courses.
  • Managua, Nicaragua
CIEE Study Center at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Nicaragua
    [Liberal Arts]

Nicaragua offers students an off-the-beaten track study abroad option in the heart of Central America and the developing world. While broad in academic scope, the new Liberal Arts program is particularly appropriate for students with advanced Spanish language skills and an interest in social sciences, social justice, and development studies. The program enables participants to refine their Spanish language skills through an intensive Spanish language course; to enhance their understanding of contemporary Nicaraguan society through the CIEE core course Revolution and Neoliberal Reform in Nicaragua; and to take courses in a wide variety of academic interests through direct matriculation at the Universidad. A two-week intensive language course precedes the regular semester to ensure student’s Spanish levels are appropriate for direct matriculation.

Program Dates
Program dates for spring 2009 programs will be posted on our website on Friday, September 12.
