What's New, What's Different
The What's New, What's Different document outlines all significant program changes at CIEE Study Centers for 2009. This will help you quickly identify those changes that will impact your students and your advising. Click here to download this document.

Advisor Manuals
If you would like to receive a 2009 Advisor Manual (set of 3-hole punched catalogs for your CIEE advising binder), please indicate the number of copies you require on the form. If you need a new binder, please also indicate that quantity on the order form. And remember, the one-page advising sheets for each program that used to appear in the printed Advisor Manual can now be viewed on our website. For a sample Quick Facts advising sheet, please click here.

Panorama
The updated Panorama provides a brief overview of all 118 CIEE Study Center programs. It also includes general CIEE information about on-site staff, scholarships, and more.

Concentration
The Concentration series provides a way for you to highlight specific areas of study at CIEE Study Centers around the world to both students and faculty. The series has been redesigned this year, using a new postcard format with additional information available on the CIEE website. Additions to the series this year include Public Health and Environmental Studies. These add to Arts, Business, Communications, Internships, and Science.

Knowledge Series
This is also the time to reorder copies of the Knowledge series, designed to help you advise your students as they prepare for their term abroad. Previous topics include health, parents, safety, women, return, risks, food, identity, and disability. New topics this year include contact—addressing issues of instant communication and its effect on the study abroad experience, and exchange—what it means to be an informal ambassador for the U.S. in today’s world. Download an order form or view more information on our website here. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions for future topics, please send an e-mail to knowledge@ciee.org or call us at 1.800.40.STUDY.

Program Fees and Cost Breakdowns
CIEE Study Center fees and cost breakdowns for winter, spring, and calendar year 2009 will be posted on our website on Friday, August 15th.

Staff Update
We are delighted to welcome new staff members at the CIEE Study Centers in Tokyo, Japan; Shanghai, China; and Rabat, Morocco in fall 2008.

Tokyo, Japan
Micheline Guertler is the new Resident Director of the CIEE Study Center in Tokyo, Japan. Hailing from Geneva, Illinois, Michelene received her bachelor's degree in Communications from DePaul University and her Master's in International and Intercultural Management at the School for International Training in Brattleboro, Vermont. Since 1995 she has been living in Japan where she has held various professional positions. Some of her experiences include serving as an assistant language teacher on the JET program, an English language curriculum coordinator, and a study abroad coordinator for Japanese university students studying in America. These positions have provided her with many glimpses of Japanese culture—from the rural and traditional customs of Fukui prefecture, to the eco-tourism culture of Kiyosato, Yamanashi prefecture, to the high pace lifestyle of Tokyo.

Shanghai, China
Dr. Andrew Field has been appointed Academic Director of the China in a Global Context Program at the CIEE Study Center in Shanghai, where he teaches the core course, Seminar on Issues of Globalization in China. Andrew earned his B.A. in Asian Studies from Dartmouth College (1991), and went on to Columbia University where he spent the next ten years earning an M.A. (1995) and Ph.D. (2001) in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures studying modern Chinese history. After completing his graduate studies, Andrew taught Chinese and Japanese History for one year at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, before teaching Chinese, East Asian, and World History at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, for the next six years. During that time, Andrew also taught courses at the CIEE Study Center in Shanghai during summers 2001, 2005, and 2006.

Rabat, Morocco
Madiha DeRosa, Resident Coordinator for the CIEE Study Center in Rabat, Morocco, received her M.A. in International Education and Development from George Washington University and a B.A. in International Relations from Boston University. Bicultural and multilingual, Madiha has worked both in the U.S. and Morocco with various university student and faculty groups. She brings a strong background in student services, teaching, and intercultural project coordination.

U.S. Staff
Earlier this week you should have received an update regarding U.S.-based CIEE staff. Please click here to link to an updated contact list.

CIEE Annual Conference

Online registration for the 2008 CIEE Conference is now open at www.ciee.org/conference. We hope you will join us in Nashville, Tennessee this November to discuss the many issues around managing growth in study abroad. For complete information about conference plenary speeches, sessions, and workshops, please click here.

If you’re considering joining us in Nashville, be sure to register now to receive the early bird rate. Last month, the Country Music Association announced that the CMA Awards will take place in Nashville the opening night of the CIEE Conference, so be sure to reserve your room at the Nashville Renaissance Hotel early, as the city will be very busy that week!

iNext Travel Card
As many of you know, CIEE now offers the iNext travel and insurance card. The iNext card offers students a host of insurance coverage, from accident, sickness, and hospital to baggage and document. A 24-hour hotline provides students assistance with emergency and everyday needs, such as medical and travel questions or concerns. Please visit www.inext.com to learn more. If you have specific questions, please call Laurie Duston, Manager, iNext, at 1.207.553.4039 or e-mail her at lduston@ciee.org
