CIEE at NAFSA Annual Conference
It’s hard to believe a month has passed since we were all in Seattle. It was good to meet with many of you and discuss how we can work together in the coming year.

Each year we recognize universities and/or colleges who are strong supporters of CIEE and our mission. Congratulations to the 2004-2005 recipients:

CIEE Academic Consortium Awards
For Outstanding Support of Study Abroad and the CIEE Study Centers:
University of Colorado at Boulder
University of Wisconsin – Madison
The Pennsylvania State University
Occidental College

For Outstanding Support of International Faculty Education and the CIEE Faculty Development Seminars:
Southwest Missouri State University

CIEE Conference Raffle Winners
Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth to enter our drawing for a free registration to the CIEE Annual Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Congratulations to the four winners:

Barbara J. Velázquez, Metropolitan Community College
Carol R. Larson, University of Pittsburgh
Marion R. Boultbee, Teachers College – Columbia University

This November, they and colleagues from around the world will attend sessions focusing on experiential learning in education abroad at the CIEE Annual Conference. For more information, or to request a registration booklet, please visit our website. The site has been updated with session information, exhibitor registration materials (spaces are filling up fast!), and online registration. Contact us at conference2005@ciee.org or 1.800.40.STUDY for more information.

CIEE Publications – Stock Your Office for Fall
New CIEE materials for Spring 2006, Summer 2006, and Fall 2006 are expected to ship in mid-August. To place an advance order, and ensure that your office is fully stocked for the start of the fall semester, click here to download an order form.

Spring 2006 program updates, including program fees and cost breakdowns, will be posted on the CIEE website by Monday, August 15th.

CIEE on Campus this Fall
We are putting our fall calendar together and would be happy to set up an appointment to visit your school, either for a fair or a more formal appointment. Please contact Jarlath McGuckin, Campus Relations Coordinator, at jmcguckin@ciee.org or 1.800.40.STUDY if you are interested.

A Note from Molly Donovan, Director of Enrollment
I am pleased to announce some changes in regional responsibility within the Enrollment department of CIEE:

  • Megan Gardner, previously an Enrollment Assistant with pre-departure responsibilities for students in Eastern Europe, is now a full-time Enrollment Officer for all programs in Spain.
  • Cari Balbo, Enrollment Officer for Spain, is shifting her responsibilities to all CIEE Study Centers in Europe, excluding Spain.
  • Kelli Boorjian (formerly Locke), Enrollment Officer for Latin America and Western Europe, will continue working with programs in Latin America as well as Australia.
  • Chris Bettera, will continue his focus in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
  • Tom Canney has joined the department as Enrollment Assistant, supporting the Enrollment Officers in an administrative capacity.

The changes above will take place over the summer as they prepare for the spring 2006 enrollment cycle. Please note that they will continue to interact with summer and Fall 2005 students and advisors from their former regions through departure.

As for myself, my husband and I are eagerly awaiting our first baby at the end of August and I will be on maternity leave for 3 months. The spring 2006 enrollment cycle will be overseen by the very capable Manager of Enrollment Data Systems, Elizabeth (Libby) Lauze, while I am out. Kathy McCrea will continue to be your contact for billing and registration issues. As always, feel free to contact me during the summer with any questions (MDonovan@ciee.org).

A Parent's Perspective

"I just wanted to let you know what a positive experience our daughter had in Seville this June. She described it to a friend as "awesome." Kelly made many good friends from all over the world and was highly complimentary of your program and the way everything was handled. I was a bit concerned the first night because she was a bit upset, probably due to fatigue. But, on Monday class began and she loved it. She and her Senora met each other after class (the Senoras were helpful that way).

"Kelly, although a beginner of Spanish, said she was getting the hang of it by the time she had to leave. We are going to plan a family trip to Seville next year and let Kelly be our guide! Thank you."

- Joan Niederlehner
