CIEE and Exchange Advocacy

CIEE continues to be heavily involved in advocating for international exchange. Since 9/11 it has been increasingly difficult for foreign students to come to the U.S. to work, volunteer, teach, or study. While we understand it is important to keep our nation safe, a balance must be found.

We have created a CIEE Legislative Action Center that allows users to send a letter to their elected representatives in support of international exchange. In addition, we have undertaken an extensive ad campaign. This month we are advertising in 18 local papers around the country, encouraging readers to go to our website and send an e-mail to their elected official. Click here to view the ads, which are tailored to their specific location.

Please be sure to send an e-mail today!

CIEE Site Visit in Ferrara, Italy

The site visit to our Study Center in Ferrara, Italy site is September 19-23, following the EAIE Conference in Torino. For information and registration materials, please click here. Read on to learn about the beautiful city of Ferrara from Richard Chapman, our Ferrara Resident Director.

"Ferrara has a large historic center which is almost perfectly preserved. Throughout the middle Ages and the Renaissance, Ferrara was a significant player in the politics of the Italian peninsula. These periods have left their traces in the cathedral, the moated fourteenth century castle, and various palazzos around town. Due to economic decline in the seventeenth century, most of the ancient buildings have remained intact. This is one of the reasons why Ferrara was declared a UNESCO world heritage site.

"Within the almost complete circle of towers and walls life has a peaceful pace. The preferred mode of transport is the bicycle, and the days pass with a rhythm which has remained largely the same for centuries. The university is one of the oldest in Italy (founded in 1391) and welcomes thousands of students every year. There are faculties in all the main subjects, with law, engineering and architecture being perhaps the strongest.

"Ferrara also boasts teams in football (soccer), basketball, and rugby, to mention a few. The favorite pastime of Ferrara residents are jogging along the renaissance walls, cycling (everywhere!), and sitting in a café watching the world go by."

CIEE on your Campus this Fall
We don’t want to rush summer, but the fall semester will be here soon! We receive study abroad fair invitations on a daily basis and our calendar is filling up. We would love to visit your school, either for a fair or a more formal visit.

Please contact Daniel Riley at driley@ciee.org if you’d like a representative from CIEE to visit your school.
