Experience a CIEE Faculty Development Seminar for yourself while in Istanbul and learn how you can internationalize your campus, curricula, and faculty as well as build advocates for study abroad within your institution.

Turkey at the Crossroads: Culture, Identity, and Community
A One-Day Faculty Development Seminar Wednesday, November 11, 8:15am – 3:00pm

This one-day Faculty Seminar is open to administrators and faculty from U.S. and overseas colleges and universities attending the CIEE Conference and will be held at the conference hotel. The cost is $25, and space is limited. Register for this one-day seminar when completing your registration for the CIEE Annual Conference.

CIEE Alumni and Resident Staff in the News

CIEE Alumni – Careers as Community Organizers
CIEE Santiago, Dominican Republic alums Quinn Rallins (Liberal Arts Fall ’06) and Drea Chicas (Service-Learning Fall ’07) embark on careers as Community Organizers with the goal of addressing issues such as economics, the environment, education, or social justice within the community.

Their stories, and those of other recent grads, are featured in an article in the New York Times. Read more about their decision to choose the exciting, and increasing popular, field of Community Organizing in a recent New York Times feature.

Monteverde, Costa Rica Resident Director on ABC’s Nature’s Edge
Karen Masters, who is currently studying the effects of climate change on epiphytic orchids in Monterverde, was recently on ABC’s Natures Edge in a feature called “Costa Rica Revisited.” In this segment, Dr. Masters talks about the orchid and climate research she is conducting in Costa Rica.

Dr. Masters has a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Princeton University, as well as an M.S. from the University of Florida and a B.S. from the University of Michigan. She has lived in Monteverde for over 20 years and has been teaching on the CIEE program since 1997.

CIEE at the NAFSA 2009 Annual Conference
CIEE will be exhibiting at the NAFSA 2009 Annual Conference in Los Angeles, CA. Visit us at booth 900/901 in the exhibit hall of the L.A. Convention Center. Bradley Rink, Resident Director of the CIEE Study Center in Stellenbosch, South Africa; Eero Jesurun, Resident Director of the CIEE Study Center in Madrid, Spain; and Virginia Neira, Program Assistant of the Business and Society program at the CIEE Study Center in Seville, Spain will be available for meetings to discuss their programs. Victoria Fletcher, Enrollment Officer for programs in Africa and the Middle East, as well as members of the Institutional Relations staff, are also available for meetings.
