New Online Student Evaluations
Over the course of the last year, we have been working to improve our student
evaluation reporting and in fall 2003 introduced a new online student evaluation
system. The new system is simpler for students to use, which has greatly increased
student response, and also provides more detailed reporting than in the past.
Comprehensive evaluation summaries for all fall 2003
programs are now available on the CIEE website here.
Using the Quick Find tool, go to evaluations and reviews, select
student evaluation, then choose the fall 2003 CIEE Study Center
from the title column. Included in each report are responses
to 38 questions related to pre-departure information, academic
programming, and living conditions.
As an incentive for students to complete the online evaluation process this
past fall, we held a drawing for a $1000 travel voucher from STA Travel. Each
student who completed the evaluation was entered into the drawing and the winner
was Daniel Blanchard, a student at University of Massachusetts at Amherst who
attended the CIEE Study Center in Santiago, Chile. Congratulations Daniel!
CIEE in the News
CNN Headline News recently featured Work, Teach,
and Volunteer Abroad programs as a cost- effective way
to travel overseas this summer. Read the full article and
see what CIEE and others have to say about these opportunities.
Work
CIEE offers programs in Australia, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand. Students
can work for as little as 2 months, live with the locals and add an international
dimension to their resume. For more information, go to www.ciee.org/work.
Volunteer
Your students can join a group of 10 to 20 other volunteers from around the
world. They’ll spend 2-4 weeks working, living, and having fun together,
and make a long-lasting contribution to the international community. Go to www.ciee.org/volunteer to
learn more.
Teach
After they graduate, your students can spend 5 or 10 months teaching English
in China or Thailand. They will be paid a local salary and receive free furnished
accommodations. While teaching students to better their English, they will
learn things about their culture they cannot expect.
CIEE at University of Minnesota Curriculum
Integration Conference
Both Martin Hogan and Bradley Rink from the CIEE Portland office will attend
the University of Minnesota Curriculum Integration Conference later this month.
Martin will be on a panel that looks at third party
providers’ role in the process of curriculum integration at the
University of Minnesota. He will discuss how CIEE advises on
curricular matches and works with sending institutions to deliver
courses that meet with specific requirements. He will also discuss
CIEE faculty site visits, International Faculty Development Seminars,
and the Annual Conference as activities that assist institutions
in meeting a number of international programming needs as well
as staff development objectives.
CIEE Overseas Staff E-mail
To simplify communication with overseas staff, CIEE resident directors all
been assigned new e-mail addresses. All CIEE resident directors now have e-mail
addresses utilizing the same syntax as CIEE Portland staff: first initial first
name, last name, @ciee.org (i.e., Maritheresa Frain, Resident Director in Seville,
can now be reached at MFrain@ciee.org).
We hope this makes it easier for you to communicate with CIEE staff overseas.
