CIEE Study Center Updates
Dublin, Ireland
Beginning this fall, CIEE will operate its Study Center in Dublin exclusively at Dublin City University. This program is ideal for students who want to study alongside Irish students and participate in the rich campus life of a small tight-knit university. Two unique aspects of the CIEE Study Center in Dublin include a CIEE core course, History and Culture of Modern Ireland, and an internship. Please contact Melissa Quinby, External Relations Officer for Europe, at mquinby@ciee.org or 1.800.407.8839 ext. 610 with any questions regarding the CIEE Study Center in Dublin.

Stellenbosch, South Africa
We are pleased to announce that Bradley Rink, Program Director for Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, will assume the role of Resident Director for the newest CIEE Study Center at Stellenbosch University in South Africa this summer. The combination of Bradley’s experience in the CIEE home office over the last 3 years along with his ample past experience in managing study abroad programs in South Africa makes him uniquely qualified to lead this program in what has become an increasingly important part of the world for CIEE.

St. Petersburg, Russia
Jarlath McGuckin, Campus Relations Coordinator, will become the new Resident Coordinator at the CIEE Study Center in St. Petersburg, Russia beginning this summer. Jarlath brings to the position his own study abroad experience in St. Petersburg (and the Czech Republic) with CIEE, skills in Russian language and culture, and three years serving on the External Relations staff at the CIEE home office in Portland.

CIEE Study Center in Guanajuato, Mexico
Do you have students interested in Mexican culture, but don’t want to live in a big city? We have two options for them: the liberal arts and language and culture programs at the CIEE Study Center in Guanajuato.

The Liberal Arts program is taught completely in Spanish and for those with 4-5 semesters of Spanish. The intense language and content courses combined with a local homestay will challenge your students to study and practice their Spanish throughout the day. Interdisciplinary courses draw from history, music, pop culture, politics, film, and more.
The Language and Culture program is for those with 2-3 semesters of Spanish. With its intermediate Spanish classes, core course taught in English, and two content courses taught in Spanish, your students will immerse themselves in the language and culture of historic Guanajuato. Classes will come alive as much of their learning will take place outside of class. Last semester after a lecture on historical and cultural aspects of Mexican cuisine, students participated in a cooking workshop.

In both programs students also complete an independent research project which includes an essay, during the last three weeks of the program. This project encourages the participants to enter the community and use their acquired Spanish language skills. Volunteering, service, or interning are options they can choose, and allows the participant to partake in an immersion-based assignment while strengthening their research abilities.

For more information on the CIEE Study Center in Guanajuato, Mexico, please contact Ellen Whitman, External Relations Officer for Latin America, at 1.800.407.8839 ext. 608 or ewhitman@ciee.org.

CIEE Knowledge Series
CIEE is pleased to announce the next three installments in the Knowledge series: women, return, and risks, designed to help you advise students and their parents. Last year’s topics, health, safety, and parents were well-received in the international education community and we look forward to hearing your comments on the next installment.

The new series will be arriving on CIEE member institution campuses in April, and will be available for order (to both members and non-members) at that time.
