CIEE Study Center Highlight: Alicante, Spain
Language and Culture—Summer
Do you have students interested in studying Spanish in the Mediterranean region who can’t break away from their home campus for an entire semester? Regardless of their language level, the Language and Culture summer program at the CIEE Study Center in Alicante will develop their language skills and increase their knowledge of Spanish art, cinema, and culture through intensive language coursework and content courses along with Spanish homestays and excursions.
Students with four or more semesters of college-level Spanish should consider enrolling in the new Advanced Language Conversation and Writing course. This course focuses on various styles of speech, as well as different composition styles, ranging from the more technical language found in newspaper articles and websites, to the more informal language used in blogs. It is a hands-on, comprehensive production course in which students will be expected to react to a variety of real-life materials such as Internet websites, blogs, newspaper articles, movies, and television programs, both orally and in writing.

Ping Doctoral Research Fellowships
CIEE is pleased, once again, to offer the Ping Doctoral Research Fellowships, providing support for doctoral research focused on U.S. undergraduate study abroad.
We invite Directors of Graduate Studies (or in the absence of a departmental DGS, a Chair) to nominate a qualified doctoral candidate for a Ping Fellowship. These Fellowships, funded through a small endowment, are named after Dr. Charles Ping, President Emeritus of Ohio University and a long-time former Chairman of the CIEE Board of Directors.
During the 2009-10 academic year, CIEE will provide up to two $20,000 Ping Doctoral Research Fellowships to outstanding doctoral candidates. For more information about eligibility, requirements, and the nomination of candidates, please click here.
