Admissions Update
CIEE Study Center at the University of Cape Town
Cape Town Arts and Sciences - Semester Program
As announced in the Summer/Fall 2009 Bulletin in December, CIEE will return to a rolling admissions process for the Cape Town Arts and Sciences Program beginning with the fall 2009 application cycle. CIEE has increased its capacity in Cape Town and can now accommodate a significantly larger number of qualified students due to newly acquired housing near the UCT campus and the elimination of the UCT-imposed enrollment cap. CIEE will continue to screen all applicants carefully so as to ensure the highest overall quality of the student group. Students must still meet the 3.0 GPA requirement and other general CIEE application criteria, and should focus their personal statements on the CIEE Cape Town Arts and Sciences program and their goals for study abroad in South Africa. In the event CIEE is unable to accommodate all qualified applicants, we will notify advisors when the program is approaching capacity and create a waitlist if necessary.

Teach: Program Updates and Deadline Announcements
The Teach in Spain program is happy to announce a broader program offering for 2009 participants. Our new program, ‘The Basics’, allows participants who have already lived in Spain and have a network there to purchase the program for a reduced fee, cutting down on the length and content of their orientation program and allowing them more independence.
Program upgrades have also been added to the Teach in Spain program: teachers can now add pre-departure TEFL certification or a 2- or 4-week intensive Spanish language immersion class based in Seville before orientation to brush up on their language skills.
Scholarships Announced: Three scholarships for 2009-10 Teach in Spain applicants were recently announced.
