Reminder: CIEE Annual Conference Call for Proposals Deadline is Fast Approaching

There is just over a week left for you to submit a session proposal for the CIEE Annual Conference, “Cultivating Culture: Local Foundations, Global Perspectives,” which will take place in Istanbul, Turkey from November 11-14, 2009.

Proposals must be received at CIEE by February 1, 2009.

At this year’s conference, we seek to explore the role of local culture in today’s study abroad experience and examine how specific academic and cultural experiences contribute to the development of global citizens.

The CIEE Academic Consortium Board formally accepted evaluation reports for the following CIEE Study Center programs:

  • Prague, Czech Republic: Central European Studies (summer)
  • Seoul, Korea: Arts and Sciences
  • Cape Town, South Africa: Service-Learning
  • Stellenbosch, South Africa: Arts and Sciences
  • Madrid, Spain: Liberal Arts

CIEE at the Forum Conference
CIEE will be exhibiting at the Forum conference in Portland, OR next month. Madrid, Spain: CIEE Study Center at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid—Legal Studies
Do you have an advanced student of Spanish interested in studying law abroad? The CIEE Legal Studies program in Madrid is designed for advanced Spanish language students who want to improve their Spanish language through coursework focused on law, public policy, and political science.

Students also have the opportunity to get hands-on work experience by participating in a for-credit internship in the legal field with a local Madrid business. The internship, coupled with the classroom learning, provide the student with a well-rounded study abroad experience while providing unparalleled educational and work experience.

CIEE Webinar: The Student Learning Project
Please join us for a live, online presentation by Dr. Michael Vande Berg, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Meg Quinn, Manager of Instructional Development, for an update on the latest developments in the CIEE Student Learning Project. The webinar will take place on January 28, 2:00pm–3:00pm EST.

The webinar will provide an overview of the Student Learning Project, which encompasses a variety of initiatives including the Online Pre-Departure Orientation, which kicks off the Seminar in Living and Learning Abroad for some students, and offers thoughtful preparation for all who attend. The webinar will also provide an update on recent changes to, and a brief demonstration of, the Online Pre-Departure Orientation.
