Visit a CIEE Study Center
Are you looking to learn more about CIEE Study Center programs? Consider joining us on a CIEE site visit, which is the best way to learn about the academic program and location, meet on-site CIEE staff and faculty, and speak with students about their experience with CIEE. We realize you may have visited these cities before, but on a site visit you’ll acquire a better understanding of the culture in which the programs operate.

The registration deadline for the site visits to China, the Czech Republic and Poland, and Korea is January 15. For Belgium and the Netherlands it is February 15 and Brazil, March 15. Download the registration form here and the agreement and release form here.

CIEE Study Center Program Monitoring and Evaluation
At their fall 2006 meeting in Seville, Spain, the CIEE Academic Consortium Board (ACB) completed the 2006 monitoring process of all CIEE Study Center programs as well as approved reports from recent on-site evaluations.

Evaluation reports were approved for the CIEE Study Centers in Hyderabad, India; Salvador da Bahia, Brazil; and the Russian Areas Studies and Russian Language programs in St. Petersburg, Russia. To view these reports, and all others, please click here (select Evaluations and Reviews and then ACB Evaluation from the dropdown lists). A complete list of evaluations will appear.

For more information on the work of the ACB as it relates to program monitoring and evaluation of CIEE Study Center programs, please click here.

CIEE Study Center in Bonaire
The Tropical Ecology and Conservation program in Bonaire opened last fall with eight participants. As part of their academic coursework, each student was required to conduct an independent research project in a topic of their choice related to tropical marine ecology and conservation, coral reef ecology, or marine conservation management. Students are active participants through the entire process of writing a proposal, conducting a literature review, creating field methodology, data collection and analysis, presenting their findings in a public community forum, and writing a final paper for publication in the onsite student academic journal.

Dr. Rita Peachey, Resident Director of the CIEE Study Center in Bonaire, and Linda Kuhnz, a Guest Professor from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute in California, advised the students on their research. Click here to read the first volume of the program journal, Physis, written by students on the fall 2006 program.

Speak with a CIEE Resident Director
Dr. Antonia Ferriol, Resident Director of the CIEE Study Center in Palma de Mallorca, Spain and Dr. Rita Peachey, Resident Director of the Tropical Marine Ecology and Conservation program in Bonaire, will be visiting the United States this spring . Antonia will be here the week of February 26 and Rita, for two weeks beginning February 19. If you’d like to arrange to speak with one of them to discuss their program, please contact Ellen Whitman, Manager, Institutional Relationships at ewhitman@ciee.org or 1.800.407.8839 x608.

CIEE Staff Updates

Registration and Billing
Carol McCurry joins the Billing and Registration team as the new CIEE Registration Coordinator. Carol has spent most of her working career at various insurance companies as a Licensing and Contracting Regulations and Procedures Specialist, including over ten years spent with Unum Provident. She is excited about starting a new career outside of the realm of insurance and expects that her past experiences will be valuable assets when working with students, parents, and advisors.

External Relations
Please welcome Sue Robinson who has joined the External Relations department as a Manager, Institutional Relationships. Sue comes to us from the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies where she worked as Director of Enrollment and Student Affairs. Prior to that, Sue worked at EF Education as the Sales and Marketing Director for EF Au Pair.
