Seville Language and Society Students Meet the Mayor
This fall, three students from the CIEE Study Center
in Seville’s Language and Society Program had the opportunity
to meet the Mayor of Seville, Don Alfredo Sánchez Monteseirín,
as part of their class: Spanish Language Skills and Communication
taught by Óscar Ceballos and José Luis Martínez Martín.
Kathleen Long from Towson University and Andrew Furgeson
from Pomona College interviewed the mayor while Christopher Dempsey,
also from Pomona College, served as the official photographer.
The students spent an hour with the mayor and their
conversation touched on topics such as Seville’s popularity as
a study abroad destination, Seville’s role within Spain and the
world in general, safety, the local economy and development,
and of course, soccer.
