Program Overview
Program Overview
Although both China and Japan are economic giants, their business perspectives and practices differ in many respects: China is the epitome of an emerging economy with two decades of double-digit growth, whereas Japan’s economy is fully developed yet emerging from a period of deflation. During this seminar, we’ll explore the triumphs, challenges, and everyday realities of doing business in these next-door neighbours, focusing on economic development, urban development, government policies and services, and the local workforce. In China, we’ll examine current economic and political relations between the U.S. and China; the social, political, and economic transformations that have taken place in recent years; and the domestic challenges of migration and displacement, cultural preservation and social transformation, and urban planning for sustainability. In Japan, we’ll get a feel for life in Tokyo, including its efficient public transit system, and learn what makes the economy and the country work.
