A majority of IFDS participants receive partial financial assistance from their home institutions. Some receive full funding and several institutions have made IFDS part of their official professional development benefits. Faculty development funds from a dean, provost or international education office are the most common source of funding that participants utilize. Beyond funding sources at your home institution, CIEE offers funding support via discounts, grants and fellowships. The majority of participants do contribute some personal funds to support their seminar experience.

Alumni Scholarships
Background
In 1990, CIEE began offering International Faculty Development Seminars (IFDS) as a resource for colleges and universities looking to internationalize on an institution-wide basis by including programs abroad for faculty and administrators. While CIEE strives to provide an academically rigorous and enlightening seminar experience, it is the work of alumni post-seminar that makes IFDS an effective internationalization tool. The IFDS Alumni Scholarship is meant to acknowledge and reward those alumni who have excelled at making the most of their seminar experience and have influenced their academic communities in depth and breadth. If awarded, recipients must submit a follow-up report with documentation of the outcome of their seminar.
Application for Alumni Scholarship
A complete IFDS Alumni Scholarship application includes the following 4 items:
Submitted IFDS Online Application

Ping Faculty Development Fellowships
The Ping Faculty Development Fellowships were established in honor of Dr. Charles Ping, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) from 1992 to 2004. These awards provide assistance to faculty and administrators from CIEE and CIEE Academic Consortium member institutions, community colleges, or NAFEO-recognized Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to participate on CIEE International Faculty Development Seminars (IFDS). The fellowships are designed to broaden participation in international education and strengthen capacities for internationalization at eligible institutions. To serve that end, the goal is for participants to utilize their IFDS experience as a way of increasing international awareness on their home campus. Applications are evaluated based on the connection between the Fellowship's mission and the applicant's projected plan of action upon their return. Candidates are required to submit a comprehensive outline of anticipated activities stemming from seminar participation. If awarded, fellows must follow-up with a two-part report on the impact of their experience.
Acceptable activities include but are not limited to:
- Creating new courses with an international focus and/or enhancing existing courses.
- Furthering and/or developing research projects with an international focus.
- Contributing to campus-wide curricular development.
- Developing study abroad opportunities for students.
- Giving presentations and/or writing papers/articles relating to the seminar content or destination.
Eligibility
Please note the following eligibility requirements for Ping Fellowship applicants:
- Applicants must be a faculty member or administrator of a community college, NAFEO-recognized Historically Black College or University (HBCUs), CIEE member institution, or a member of the CIEE Academic Consortium. Please check the online membership lists prior to applying in order to ensure your school is a membership institution. Contact CIEE Institutional Relations Coordinator, Chris McCoy, with questions about membership.
- Individuals who have been awarded a Ping Fellowship in the last five years are not eligible.
- In keeping with the fellowship's mission, individuals who are able to secure sufficient funding from their home institution to cover the seminar fee and roundtrip airfare are not eligible.
