Program Overview
Program Overview
Over the past 45 years as Botswana has developed into an independent nation, this country has become a leader among African nations in designing effective and thoughtful public health policy. Proactive efforts by the government, particularly the Ministry of Health, to provide pioneering treatments, research, and education to its people sets the country apart as a model of success in the public health realm. However, challenges still exist, particularly the HIV/AIDS pandemic, the nation’s most pressing health concern. During this seminar, we’ll examine in depth the issues and challenges facing developing nations in their efforts to provide sustainable public healthcare. We’ll also take a close look at how HIV/AIDS has impacted every corner of society, and discuss other dimensions of the public health story including women’s health issues, healthcare delivery in rural and urban settings, traditional and modern approaches to medicine, and human rights in an African context.
