The Jordanian National Commission for Women
The Jordanian National Commission for Women was formed in 1992 with a mission to reflect the desire of the Jordanian government to optimize the participation of women in economic, social and political life. It is presided over by Her Royal Highness, Princess Basma bint Talal, and includes representatives of those public and private bodies concerned with women’s issues. The establishment of the commission has thus become another milestone on the path to enhancing the situation of women so that they can assume their rightful place in society. Heading the list of priorities in the work of this Commission has been the drawing up of a National Strategy for Women in Jordan. Such a strategy is envisaged as the focal point towards which all national efforts, whatever their orientations and fields of activity, would ultimately lead.
