About CIEE
CIEE: Council on International Educational Exchange is the leading U.S. non-governmental international education organization. Since 1947, CIEE has been in pursuit of its mission, "to help people gain understanding, acquire knowledge, and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world." We create and administer programs that help educators like you, as well as high school and university students, study and teach abroad.
CIEE began offering student programs in the postwar world of 1947, and added its educator-focused International Faculty Development Seminars in 1990 with the goal of encouraging U.S. colleges and universities to internationalize curricula. Since then, we have run more than 220 seminars worldwide in over 40 countries, helping 3,550 faculty and administrators from 800 U.S. and foreign institutions of higher education increase their international awareness and transform their campus profile.
CIEE Membership
Be sure to consult with your institution's international office to see if your college or university is a member of CIEE or the Academic Consortium of CIEE. Institutions seek membership in CIEE primarily to affiliate with our mission to support our voice in advocacy efforts in Washington, and to have a policy voice in CIEE programs and activities through the election of the Academic Consortium and CIEE Boards of Directors. As such, CIEE and Academic Consortium members are part of a worldwide network of colleges and universities committed to excellence in international education. A $200 discount for registration on an IFDS program is available to individuals working at a member institution.
