CIEE support
The High School Abroad program is the best way for you to become a global citizen and achieve fluency in Italian. Our partner, Mondo Insieme, is responsible for the placement of our students and will carefully select Italian families and regions of Italy according to availability and the student's profile. Students will enroll in a public or private high school and will be expected to fully participate in the academic program conducted in Italian.
Mondo Insieme will interview host families at their home to ensure that they have the capacity and the economic resources to properly host a teenage exchange student. Each student will be assigned a supervising local coordinator by Mondo Insieme. They provide complete supervision and support for the students during their program.
orientation
Orientation will take place in Boston one day before departure. They consist of a full half day program of information on important topics such as an introduction to your host country, health and safety, tips on how to adjust to a new culture and language, the academic program, and getting to know other high school students going to the same country. The rest of the time is spent on sightseeing in the area, restaurants and evening activities. Students will be met at the airport and housed in hotels with other participants. CIEE staff will stay in the hotel with the students and will accompany them to their overseas check-in. Representatives from our partner organization will meet our students when they arrive in Italy where they will assist in the transfer to the student's final destination where a local orientation will be conducted.
placements
Students will be placed throughout Italy, in rural towns and urban cities alike. While students may express an interest in living in a particular region, it is up to Mondo Insieme to make the appropriate placement for the student based on the application and profile. The host family will provide accommodations and meals in the home. All meals away from home (including school lunches) are to be paid for by the student. CIEE participants will enroll in a local high school where classes are conducted in Italian.
