ciee support
World Study Intercâmbio Cultural and Via Mundo are the organizations responsible for the placement and support of the students while in Brazil. Via Mundo and World Study carefully select and screen their volunteer host families while placing students in either a public or private Brazilian high school. Each student will be matched with a local coordinator appointed by the assigned partner. These local coordinators are available to provide complete supervision and support throughout the student's stay in Brazil.
orientation
Orientation will take place in Boston one day before departure. They consist of a full half day program of information on important topics such as an introduction to your host country, health and safety, tips on how to adjust to a new culture and language, the academic program, and getting to know other high school students going to the same country. The rest of the time is spent on sightseeing in the area, restaurants and evening activities. Students will be met at the airport and housed in hotels with other participants. CIEE staff will stay in the hotel with the students and will accompany them to their overseas check-in. Representatives from our partner organization will meet our students when they arrive in Brazil to help with the transfer to their final destination for a local orientation.
placements
World Study and Via Mundo carefully select and screen their volunteer host families. Students will be placed in urban areas, primarily in the Brazilian states of Minas Gerais, Goias, Parana, Rio Grande do Sul, Amazonas, Espirito Santo and the Federal District of Brasilia. While students may express interest to live in a particular city, it is up to the assigned partner to make the appropriate placement for the student based on the application.
Students will be placed in both private and public schools throughout Brazil. The Brazilian high school system dictates that American students on exchange will most likely be placed in a grade of high school that is different from what they would attend in the United States.
Optional excursions
Optional trips to the Amazon and Lencois Maranharses are available at an additional cost.
