ciee support
CIEE's high school study abroad program is the best way for U.S. high school students to become global citizens. Student Exchange Australia, Ltd (SEA) will be responsible for the placement and support of the students while in Australia, and they will carefully screen and select volunteer host families. Each student will be assigned a local coordinator appointed by SEA. These coordinators are available to provide complete supervision and support throughout the student's stay in Australia.
orientation
Orientation will take place in Los Angeles one day before departure. They consist of a full half day program of information on important topics such as an introduction to your host country, health and safety, tips on how to adjust to a new culture, the academic program, and getting to know other high school students going to the same country. The rest of the time is spent on sightseeing in the area, restaurants and evening activities. Students will be met at the airport and housed in hotels with other participants. CIEE staff will stay in the hotel with the students and will accompany them to their overseas check-in. Representatives from our partner organization will meet our students when they arrive in Australia for an onsite orientation prior to departing for their final destination.
placements
The students will be placed with volunteer host families and schools in all areas of Australia. Past placements have included but not limited to Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne. During their stay, participants will attend either a public or private high school. A variety of courses are available for selection by the student, pending space available at the school. While students may express an interest to live in a particular city, it is up to SEA to make the appropriate placement for the student based on the application.
